Kudos ...

     Caitlin Moran
     Caitlin Moran

... to Caitlin Moran on scoring her very first NIH funding (K23HL152903)!

Among the other complications that HIV preferentially inflicts on women is cardiovascular disease (CVD), which occurs more often in women living with HIV than it does in in men (and occurs in both women and men living with HIV at a younger age than in the general population).

Is this because estrogen?

Caitlin's K23 -- UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF ESTROGEN RECEPTOR EXPRESSION IN CVD RISK IN WOMEN WITH AND WITHOUT HIV -- hopes to answer that question. Her work will explore the effects of HIV on estrogen receptor gene expression and translation in women, as well as the associations of estrogen receptor gene expression and translation with prevalent and progressive subclinical CVD in women who have and do not have HIV.

In Other Exciting News ...

     Sophia Hussen      Daniel Camp
     Sophia Hussen      Daniel Camp

Way back in 2019 Sophia Hussen received an R34 award for ITRANSITION: DEVELOPING AND PILOT TESTING A MULTILEVEL TECHNOLOGY-BASED INTERVENTION TO SUPPORT YOUTH LIVING WITH HIV FROM ADOLESCENT TO ADULT CARE. (See 9/29/19 Network News).

Well, this year Sophia scored a diversity supplement attached to that award for recent MPH graduate Daniel Camp. Yay!

Diversity supplements support career development for budding scientists from groups that are underrepresented in scientific research. Daniel's supplement will support his ultimate goal of becoming an NIH-funded physician-scientist in HIV by providing resources that will give him a year to further his existing skills in implementation science, data analysis, and scientific writing while he applies to medical school.
