INTERNATIONAL CFAR03 Program
The International CFAR03 (I-CFAR03) Program provides funding for collaborations between CFAR investigators and former Fellows of two Fogarty International Center-funded programs: the Emory AIDS International Training and Reserach Program (AITRP) and the Emory-Georgia Tuberculosis Research Training Program (E-GTbRTP). The I-CFAR03 is intended to help Emory Fogarty graduates who have returned to their home countries collect preliminary data preparatory to submitting applications for NIH funding.
It is modeled on the NIH R03 program and is designed to provide support for research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time (1 year) with limited resources ($30-60K).

PURPOSE
The International CFAR03 (I-CFAR03) Program has four purposes. These include to:
- Increase the expertise of Fogarty International Center-funded Emory AIDS International Training and Research Program and Emory-Georgia TB Research Training Program (“Emory Fogarty”) graduates in AIDS-related biomedical, behavioral, laboratory, clinical, epidemiological and/or social science research
- Fill gaps and strengthen the sustainability of HIV/AIDS- related research within Emory Fogarty collaborating countries’ institution(s)
- Expand and equalize collaborative scientific research interactions between Emory Fogarty graduates and faculty affiliated with any of the currently NIH-funded Centers for AIDS Research (CFAR)
- Strengthen the capacity of Emory Fogarty graduates’ home countries’ institutions to compete for current and future NIH grants designed for foreign institutions
The I-CFAR03 accomplishes these purposes by funding projects that provide Emory Fogarty graduates with data for applications that will support an NIH-funded career development award (K award), exploratory / developmental research grant award (R21), small grant program award (R03), or independent investigator application (R01).
